What do we offer?
At Boarshaw Community Primary School, we ensure that all pupils are exposed to a broad and balanced curriculum. We follow the statutory National Curriculum (see curriculum pages for further details) through the delivery of enquiry based topics. The topics are designed to engage and inspire the pupils and encourage cross curricular learning (see topic list for more details).
"The school's well-balanced curriculum inspires pupils' learning in a wide range of subjects. An extensive range of activities promote pupils acquisition of new skills and knowledge including German, first aid and sporting skills," OFSTED 2016.
In addition to this we aim to develop the ‘whole child’. We firmly believe that the teaching of life skills is a fundamental part of education and is an essential part of preparing our pupils for the future. We offer pupils a chance to develop these skills through ‘Flexible Thursday's’. These enrichment sessions take part every Thursday afternoon for an hour.
How does it work?
Pupils sign up for a ‘course’ that will run for a half term. The courses are delivered by teachers, Support staff and outside providers.
The aim is that by the end of the year all pupils will have participated in one course from each main area – head, heart, hands and health.
The school is always looking to expand the range of courses offered, so please contact the school office if you would like to get involved.

Learning Outside the Classroom
Residentials
We believe that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances. To support this within our school environment, we offer children to opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities and encourage pupils to attend our residential. This year our Year 5 and 6 pupils will be visiting Kingswood for their annual residential.

Forest Schools
Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

At Boarshaw, we are currently developing our Forest School area, through the use of a lottery grant and we hope to share with you all of our fabulous 'learning outside of the classroom.'
Duke of Edinburgh
The Junior Award Scheme for Schools (JASS) state on their website that this is a progressive learning programme for young people which has been designed to recognise wider achievement. JASS develops the whole individual by offering recognition in four key areas – regular physical activity (Get Active, Stay Active), exploring a personal interest (My Interests), working for the good of the community or the environment (Me and My World) and completing an outdoor activity or challenge (Adventure) and is designed so that participants move through the levels with increasing commitment, learning, and challenge. At Boarshaw pupils from KS2 take part in achieving this award. Our Duke of Edinburgh is run by our school staff. More about their work can be found on their webpage.
Boarshaw Primary Promise
Every time our children experience one of the things on the list attached, they put the date next to it. When they leave school they will have a record of all the experiences they had as part of the Boarshaw Primary Promise.
