Welcome to Year 5 Lionfish

Welcome to Year 5 Lionfish's page.   My name is Miss Wilson and I am the class teacher.  Year 5 is an eventful year at Boarshaw Primary School and the children will have the opportunity to take part in many exciting events.  In Year 5 the children will build on their learning across the curriculum and will be given the opportunity to take on roles of responsibility in school.

On this page you will find information about the weekly timetable, the topics we will be covering each half term and any other key information you may need.  The links below will take you to the Year 5 newsletters and curriculum overviews for each term.

Homework

Every child needs to be reading at home each night and should bring their book into school every day.  Wherever possible, please help your child practise their spellings and times tables. Testing them at home will help cement their learning of the different spelling rules and multiplication facts.  Homework will be set on the TT Rockstars and Spelling Shed websites every Friday afternoon so that the children have a full week to complete it.   It is important that this homework is completed online so that the systems can adapt the level of challenge to meet your child's individual learning needs.  If you have any difficulty with accessing the homework online please let me know.  Each Monday children will also bring home their spelling list (in their pupil planner), a handwriting sheet of the week's spellings, a maths booklet (the pages to be complete will be written in their planner) and a reading comprehension.

Year 5 Curriculum Overview

We have used the national curriculum and our expertise to map out a broad, balanced, creative and coherent curriculum. We believe our curriculum empowers our pupils to access and develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes and dispositions to enable them to become well-rounded citizens who take with them a life-long love of learning.
